My daughter turned 1 at the very end of July, and I knew that when she turned one is when I would want to start implementing this crazy "book school" idea that I had. August was coincidentally the same time Lil Man (the 15 months old little boy I babysit part time) was coming back from his summer hiatus (family works for school district). So my Love Bug has a "classmate" 1 or 2 days a week.
I wanted this to be as gentle of a transition as possible, so I am completely non-structured in our learning routine. I simply pick out a book and fill up an exploratory basket with corresponding toys. I put it in our living room and when she notices it, I sit down with her and we read the book and play with the toys. Simple, huh? It's amazing what children learn through play.
As Love Bug gets older, I will begin to introduce a more structured learning environment for her. Of course, always being developmentally appropriate.
