Summer STEM activities

We are very fortunate to live in an area that has an abundance of free to cheap activities for children. Our local mall has a free play area that has a strong emphasis on STEM activities. STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math. Concepts that might seem foreign to teach in a preschool setting, let alone Tot School. But you would probably be surprised just what your littles are learning! It truly is never too early to teach STEM!

Sky writing activity.

Building with foam blocks.

Engineering/Constructing with Foam Blocks

Designing a path for her floating balls to take.

Observing herself in a mirror.

Exploring the textures within the play structure.

"Magic Art"

I discovered a "magic" art trick online that I thought was pretty cool! You draw or print a simple design on a piece of paper, then trace the design onto a sheet protector. Then color in the original drawing. Put a blank piece of paper between the colored-in piece and the tracing, and when you pull the blank paper in and out it looks like the picture colors itself in.

Zoo

Easy peasy water activity: a baking sheet, a couple of sponges, and some zoo animals.

We used Lego duplos to create our zoo :)

We used old paper towel tubes to paint circles.

We actually went to the zoo!

Baby Bear book and story retelling Lego duplos. Legos can be used for story telling, sequencing, patterning, and/or matching. Also builds fine motor skills.

Matching game, made for young toddlers- no memory required!

Mothers Day

Painting a flower pot!

My husband got me a garden fairy starter kit for mothers day- and it was the perfect activity to do with Love Bug!

She helped me to spread the soil, plant the seeds, and wet the soil with a spray bottle.

I hand painted the fairy figurines.

Then I planned and created. :)

She LOVES the fairy garden. She checks on it all of the time!

I drew a simple butterfly, laminated it, and let her draw and color on it with her markers. When she's done, I just wipe it clean and it is ready for next time.
